Enabling access to justice with mobile technology
Dada Wakili (Swahili for Sister Lawyer) is an AI-powered legal companion that helps women and girls in Tanzania understand their rights and navigate common justice challenges using simple mobile tools like WhatsApp and SMS. It delivers clear, reliable legal information in plain language and connects users with resources they can use to act on their rights.

Dada Wakili is built to meet women where they are: in their homes, workplaces, markets, farms, and communities.
Our Vision
Haki mkononi mwa wanawake
Putting justice in the hands of women and girls.
Our Mission
We are committed to making justice accessible through three core goals:
- Empower Women & Girls
By providing simple, accessible legal education directly on their mobile phone. - Strengthen Community Support
By complementing the work of Tanzania’s legal aid ecosystem and connecting women to real help when needed. - Understand Justice Needs
By safely gathering anonymised insights to highlight the challenges women face — and where better services are needed.
Expected Results
Through Dada Wakili, women are better equipped to:
- Claim their rights with confidence
- Make informed decisions about family, land, and finances
- Seek help earlier and more safely
- Navigate the justice system with less fear and uncertainty
Ultimately, Dada Wakili helps women resolve everyday legal problems that often keep them in cycles of poverty, insecurity, or risk.
Our Impact
Dada Wakili supports real change by:
✨ Promoting Social Inclusion
More women can understand and act on their rights — many for the first time.
✨ Strengthening Economic Security
Legal knowledge helps women secure property, access resources, and build financial independence.
✨ Supporting Safer Lives
Women facing violence or exploitation can access guidance discreetly and safely from their own phone.
Dada Wakili contributes directly to SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions) by removing the practical barriers that prevent women from getting legal help.
Partnerships
We work closely with legal aid clinics, paralegals, and community justice providers across Tanzania to ensure Dada Wakili is safe, trusted, and locally grounded. Through collaborations with the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs and organisations such as WiLDAF and TAWLA, we are expanding access to justice one community at a time.
Together, we are proving that technology — when designed with women at the centre — can be a powerful force for equality.
